One of the most popular earlier varieties of medium size and maturing in 54 days. The root, a flattened globe with small tap root, is of good flavor and texture. Sow seeds every two weeks begining in August for a continous supply. Beets prefer cool weather and are at their tender best when grown quickly with plenty of moisture. Soil should be loamy and high in organic matter. As with all root crops, thinning is essential. Harvest near 60 days as roots can become woody when left in the ground longer. Good source of vitamin B, calcium, and iron. Late summer planting will produce a better crop for winter storage.
